| COLD! COLD! COLD! That is the word to describe February 2010 and the tournament day was no different. The day started out with everyone asking just how dumb we really were for being out in the weather. I mean it was all of 39 degrees with not much promise of it getting much warmer. It was supposed to be partly cloudy and I guess you could say that, it was totally overcast until noon and then the sun came out to warm it up to a high of 50 degrees, but if you factor in the winds which were 15 - 30 mph it sure didn't feel any warmer than when we left the ramp. The water was cold, we found the temps to run from 49 - 53 degrees and I figured all the fish were snuggled down around their fireplaces laughing at us. A lot of the guys decided it wasn't worth the trouble and left early, only Gary Thompson came back to witness the weigh-in. I think it was only to make fun of the rest of us. There were no limits and only one team caught 4 fish, in fact there were only 18 fish weighed in. Considering there were only 17 boats fishing it would seem everyone could of had one fish, but that didn't happen. First place went to Butch McKee (our fearless leader) with his ringer partner Glen Rogers. They caught 4 fish at 10.64 lbs. and missed big bass by .04 lbs. Second went to Glen Paulson and Mitch Dees with 3 fish at 9.17 lbs. They also managed with that weight to take over leaders for the year by 0.62 lbs from All year leaders, John Mullis and Ernie Watson. Third place went to newcomers Brian / Scott Heaberlin. (Sorry Scott no one stated your name when you were at the ramp, I had heard it a long time ago. But you can bet I won't forget it now) They had 3 fish at 8.45 lbs. Fourth went to Jose Denizac / David Santiago with 2 fish @ 7.03 lbs which include Big Bass at 4.55 lbs. So no one beat Bud Burgess' big bass at 8.64 lbs, he kept that weight from April 09 at Istokpoga. There were some changes made during the organizational meeting. But Butch explained some of them and they will be found in the by-laws and on the calendar. Next month is the classic. If you're not sure you qualified check the YTD standing. We will meet at the Winn Dixie on 17-92 across from the ford dealership at 5 am. Come to the meeting, don't forget to let Butch know if you are going to Istokpoga so you can get your cabin assignment. See ya on the Water! |
